What Are the Advantages of Dante Audio Technology?

2023-06-15

Compared with traditional audio transmission technologies, Dante digital audio transmission technology inherits all the advantages of CobraNet and EtherSound, such as uncompressed digital audio signals, ensuring good sound quality; solving the complex wiring problems in traditional audio transmission and reducing costs; adapting to existing networks without special configuration; audio signals in the network are marked in the form of "labels", etc. While inheriting these advantages, Dante technology also has its own unique advantages.

The first is smaller delay. When the total transmission audio channels are 3 at 100M network bandwidth, the delay is only 34μs. The Dante system can automatically adjust the available network bandwidth to minimize the delay time. At the same time, it also uses the IEEE1588 precision clock protocol for clock synchronization.

Dante audio technology uses the zeroconf (Zero Configuration Networking) protocol, which uses the automatic configuration server to automatically check interface devices, identify labels, and distinguish IP addresses, etc., without starting high-level DNS or DHCP services, and saving complex manual network configuration. The high compatibility with the network also allows Dante technology to allow audio signals and control data and other irrelevant data streams to be shared in the same network without interference. Users can make the most of the existing network without having to build a dedicated network for the audio system. Existing ordinary TCP/IP devices (PCs, etc.) or some audio processing software can be added to the Dante network.

Dante technology also has a self-healing system. In order to avoid unexpected interruptions in audio transmission, the system can set multiple self-healing mechanisms. The transmission mode of its audio channel can be unicast or multicast, which can be managed through IGMP (Internet Group Message Protocol). The broadcast audio channel can be filtered or shielded according to the needs of the receiving point, which makes the routing of multicast audio controllable.
